Residents of Musanze District joined national leaders to celebrate Rwanda’s 32nd National Heroes Day in Muhoza Sector, honoring the country’s heroes and renewing their commitment to unity, patriotism, and selfless service as drivers of national development.
Celebrations to mark Rwanda’s National Heroes Day were held in Musanze District, at Nduruma Village in Kigombe Cell, Muhoza Sector. The event was attended by the Governor of the Northern Province, the Mayor of Musanze District, and other leaders from various institutions.

Some residents who participated in the celebrations said they were happy to honor the day and emphasized that they too should strive to be heroes in their everyday lives.
One resident, Abdul Hakizimana, said that Heroes Day teaches them many values, including patriotism and self-sacrifice. He said

“This day teaches us many things, including loving our country. It reminds us to follow in the footsteps of those who became heroes before us, to respect ourselves, to build ourselves, and to uphold our dignity.”
Cyiza Heriette, a young participant at the event, said that the history behind Heroes Day inspires the youth to work toward becoming heroes. She said:
“As young people, this is motivation for us and also a reminder of Rwanda’s history. We learn what it took for Rwanda to reach where it is today. it required courage, sacrifice, and even blood. What is expected of us as youth is to learn from and emulate these heroes.”

The Governor of the Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunda, encouraged Musanze residents to engage in heroic actions, especially the youth, who represent Rwanda’s future. He said:
“On this day, we are called to follow in the footsteps of our heroes and promote the values that characterized them, including patriotism, sacrifice, unity, integrity, wisdom, being exemplary, and having the courage to confront wrongdoing in the journey to becoming heroes.”
The Governor also urged the youth to be role models in their daily activities and to learn from the country’s heroic history. He added:
“Students and young people should learn from this history. A worker should also perform their duties diligently and provide quality services that too is heroism.”

He further called on residents to fight child stunting, alcoholism, teenage pregnancy, smuggling, and drug abuse, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to ensure that all children attend school.
The 32nd National Heroes Day was celebrated. This year’s theme is: “Ubutwari n’Ubumwe bw’Abanyarwanda, Inkingi z’Iterambere.”
